German Warrior Vento

Put a boot on your hatch and make it a sedan; it has been a hit formula which has been used by many car makers in India. German auto giant, Volkswagen also fell for it and delivered a boot equipped version of Polo with the name of Vento. It was not the first time that we saw a sedan evolving out of a hatchback as the concept was initiated much before by Tata motors with their Indigo CS which was soon followed by Maruti Suzuki with the boot version of Swift namely, Swift Dzire. The concept might have been the same for Vento but what actually differentiated it from such sedans was that it was not an entry level sedan but, it was India’s the first premium midsized car which was an extended version of its hatchback.

Volkswagen Vento debuted with two 1.6L engine options in India with one each of petrol and diesel. The petrol unit of Vento is a four cylinder, DOHC, 16valves engine. It produces a peak power of 105bhp at 5250rpm and pulls out a torque output of 153Nm at 3800rpm.This engine is mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox and is also available with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The 1.6L diesel engine of the Volkswagen Vento churns out a power of 105 bhp with its maximum torque output of 250Nm coming at 1500rpm.This TDI engine is equipped with a five speed manual gearbox.

Now, recently Volkswagen has added another 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine to the line-up. This engine has a power production of 105bhp that is similar to the 1.6L engine but gets a major bump in its torque output and generates a massive 175Nm of torque which is available as early as 1500rpm. This engine is only available with a 7-speed double clutch gearbox.

In its segment, the cabin quality of Vento is often ranked the best in many Volkswagen Vento reviews. The quality of the plastics, fit and finish inside Vento makes you feel as if you are sitting in a sedan which is above its segment. The car comes equipped with many features like Driver seat height adjustment, tilt and telescopic steering, automatic climate control with rear a.c vents. There is also front and rear centre arm rest in Vento with cup holder for the rear seat. The Highline variant of Volkswagen Vento is also equipped with vital safety features like ABS and dual stage front airbags.

The Volkswagen Vento price bracket ranges from INR 7.32 lakhs to INR 9.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Volkswagen offers a decent package at a justified price and that’s the reason why Vento became the first car in India to dethrone Honda City from the top position in its segment.
